Luton is celebrating 150 years since it officially became a borough in 1876. Across the town there have been a range of celebrations, exhibitions and events to commemorate the occasion.
At Headway Luton, we decided to host our own week of celebrations at our day centre on Alma Street. The building was decked out in blue and orange to represent the town colours.
We had singing from Mr Sparkler, music bingo, karaoke, a raffle, an art display, party games, photobooth and a competition to see which team could build the most sea worthy boat. With boat names including “Forlorn Hope”, “Armageddon” and, “The Winners”, there seemed to be a range of confidence levels by the ship builders.
Many of our clients are unable to access celebrations in the town due to inaccessible venues and transport, finances, or the impact of their medical conditions on their independence. To bring celebrations into our day centre means everyone can take part in recognizing and celebrating the importance of our town and the diverse people who live and work within it.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to our raffle including: Venue 360, The Beauty Project (Barton-le-Clay), Tesco Community Champions, Morrisons (Birdsfoot Lane), Co-op (Barton-le-Clay), Velaa Store (Birdsfoot Lane), and Luton Council for the outside bunting.
A special thank you to Event Rhino for donating the photo booth for us to capture great memories.
If you would like to donate to our charity so we can put on more parties and special events for our clients, please do so via our JustGiving page. We also welcome raffle and tombola donations all year round.
