We provide two main services:

Our day centre service

  • Our main day centre is on Alma Street in Luton.
  • The Luton day centre is open Mondays to Fridays, 9:30am to 3:00pm.
  • Around 30 people attend on each day.
  • We also have a day centre in Houghton Regis on Wednesdays only.
  • Each day is filled with different activities designed to improve cognitive skills, physical strength, mobility and avoid social isolation.

  • We can come and visit you to discuss your goals and needs.
  • You may want to attend our day centres. If so, we will help you with the process of assessments, funding and transport.
  • Not everyone can or wants to attend our day centres. Therefore our Community Service is here for you via phone, email and home visits.

Inclusion criteria

In order to access our services, clients:

  • Must be registered with a GP.
  • Have a professionally confirmed acquired brain injury.
  • Need to be 18 years old and older.
  • In the case of dual ABI/other neurological conditions diagnosis, the ABI must be the predominate issue.

How much does it cost?

There is a cost to attending the day centres. This will be explained to you at the assessment stage. Some people self-fund. Most receive funding for their placement from their local authority. Funding from your local authority is subject to a financial assessment by a social worker.

Accepted conditions

Our clients have acquired their brain injury in a range of ways including:

  • Stroke
  • Traumatic brain injury (TBI):
    • Road Traffic Accidents
    • Accidents (home, work, sport or lifestyle)
    • Domestic and street assaults
    • Armed conflict
  • Cerebral Anoxia
  • Poisoning – carbon monoxide, solvents
  • Alcohol or drug abuse
  • Epilepsy
  • Encephalitis
  • Infection – including Meningitis
  • Tumour
  • Surgery or anaesthetic accident
  • Brain Hemorrhage

Some clients are also living with other neurological conditions. We have a small but growing group of clients living with dementia. Please talk to us to discuss if you would be suited to our services.

Referral process

2. We will then arrange a meeting with you to discuss your needs and goals.

3. If Headway Luton is right for you, we work together to create a personalised action plan.

4. Your plan may include taking part in a range of activities at our centre. Or it might be home based where you can receive confidential support on a needs basis. For some it can be a mixture of both.

5. As a client, you can expect ongoing assessment, review of your progress and setting of new goals. These are all aimed to help you reach your fullest potential.
